Terms of service
The rules for this website, your account and the BaseCut subscription. Your right to install and run a plugin is covered by the EULA.
Last updated: 2026-10-21
These terms cover this website, your Arc Engine Tools account, and the BaseCut subscription. Your right to install and run a plugin is covered by the End User License Agreement. Money back is covered by the Refund Policy.
1. Who you are dealing with
Arc Engine Tools is a trade name of ColinMadeThis Multimedia, LLC, a Texas limited liability company. In these terms "we" and "us" mean that company, and "you" means the person or business using the site.
Contact: support@arcenginetools.com.
2. Accepting these terms
Using this site means you accept these terms. If you do not accept them, do not use the site.
You must be 18 or older to buy.
3. Your account
You can buy without an account: your receipt email carries your license key and a download link. You need an account to see your keys and installers at any time, manage your machines, or manage a subscription.
Sign-in is handled by Clerk. We join your purchases to your account by verified email address only. An unverified address matches nothing. Keep your sign-in details to yourself; you are responsible for what happens under your account.
4. Buying
Stripe is the merchant of record. Stripe is the authorised reseller, and your purchase is also subject to Stripe's own consumer terms. Stripe takes the payment, issues the receipt, calculates and remits tax, and processes refunds. We decide whether to refund; Stripe moves the money.
Prices are in US dollars. Sales tax or VAT is added at checkout where it applies. Placing an order authorises the charge.
5. One-time plugins
GenLock and Shutter are one-time purchases. You pay once and keep the version you bought. Updates within the same major version are free.
6. BaseCut is a subscription, measured in credits
BaseCut is billed monthly or annually. What you get is an allowance of credits, spent on the source footage you point BaseCut at.
- One credit is one minute of source footage, rounded down: not one minute of finished video, and not one cut.
- Every new shoot costs at least one credit, however short it is.
- Re-cutting footage you have already paid for is free until your credits next reset. A shoot counts once in each allowance period.
- Reading a client's website costs one credit, once per shoot, and only when you turn that option on. It is the one charge that is not footage. BaseCut shows it in the cost on the AI Rough Cut button before you press it.
- Plans are Intro ($15 a month, 350 credits), Pro ($40, 1,250 credits) and Studio ($100, 4,000 credits). An annual plan is ten months' price for twelve months of service.
- Optional top-up packs are 300 credits for $18, bought only when you ask for one. They are never billed automatically. Top-up credits are used after your plan's monthly credits, oldest first, and last 12 months from purchase.
We never bill you for going over. When the allowance is spent, BaseCut stops and tells you how much you used, how much you had, and the day it comes back. There is no overage charge on this product.
Carrying credits over. On an annual plan only, unused credits roll into the next month, capped at half your monthly allowance, for one month only. They do not build up. Monthly plans carry nothing.
Renewal. A subscription renews automatically at the end of each period until you cancel.
Cancelling. Cancel any time from your account page on this site. There is no fee and no notice period. You keep BaseCut until the end of the period you have already paid for. Unused credits end with that period.
7. Free trials
The 14-day free trial. Your first BaseCut subscription, on any plan and either billing period, starts with 14 days free. Your card is taken at checkout and first charged on day 15 unless you cancel before then from your account page, in which case you pay nothing. During the trial you can use up to 150 credits. The All 3 bundle has no free trial.
The free trial is limited to one per email address: if your address has had BaseCut in any form, including an earlier trial, a new subscription is billed from the day it starts. Creating extra accounts or addresses to claim extra trials is a breach of these terms and we may cancel the licenses it produced.
8. Refunds
Refunds are covered by the Refund Policy, which forms part of these terms. In short: GenLock, Shutter and the All 3 bundle get a full refund within 14 days, no questions. BaseCut on its own is covered by its 14-day free trial instead, so BaseCut charges (subscriptions, renewals and top-up packs) are not refunded after it. Cancelling stops the next renewal.
A full refund switches off the license keys that payment bought.
9. Seats
Each license covers two machines. It is meant for one person on a laptop and a desk machine, not for two people. You can free a seat at any time from your account page by pressing Deactivate. Deactivating removes that machine from the list; it does not block it, and you can activate the same machine again.
10. What BaseCut needs, and what it sends
BaseCut needs a Mac with Apple silicon and macOS 14 or newer, Adobe Premiere 25.6 or newer, and the Adobe Creative Cloud desktop app, which is what installs the panel. There is no Intel version and no Windows version. Use the 14-day free trial to check it runs on your machine before you pay.
BaseCut transcribes on your own Mac and sends textto build a cut: the transcript, your source file names, your brief and any other instructions you type (such as speaker names), and your client's website address if you switch that on. No video and no audio leave your machine. The Privacy Policy states this in full.
The cut is built by a third-party AI model, run on Google Cloud. Models make mistakes. Check the cut before you deliver it.
11. Your content
Your footage, your transcript and the cuts you make are yours. We claim no ownership of them and we do not use them to train any model.
You are responsible for having the right to use the material you put through BaseCut, including any consent or non-disclosure agreement that covers it.
12. Things you must not do
- Do not attack the site, other customers, or our servers.
- Do not scrape the site at unreasonable rates.
- Do not share, resell or sublicense a license key.
- Do not use BaseCut to process unlawful material.
- Do not give BaseCut a website address you have no right to have read.
We may suspend an account that does any of these. If we do, we will tell you why.
13. Availability
We do not promise the site or the cut service will always be available. There is no uptime guarantee. arcenginetools.com/status shows whether we are up. Transcription runs on your own Mac and keeps working when we do not.
We may change or retire a feature. If a change materially reduces what you already paid for, we will email you.
14. No warranty
The site and the services are provided "as is". To the fullest extent the law allows, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including merchantability and fitness for a particular purpose.
15. Limit on what we owe
To the fullest extent the law allows, our total liability arising out of these terms is limited to what you paid us in the twelve months before the claim. We are not liable for lost profit, lost work, lost footage, or any indirect or consequential loss.
Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law.
16. Ending
You may stop using the site at any time. We may end your account if you breach these terms. Sections 11, 14, 15 and 17 survive.
17. Law
Texas law governs these terms, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules. The courts of Dallas County, Texas have exclusive jurisdiction, unless the law where you live gives you the right to sue somewhere else.
18. Changes
We may update these terms. Continuing to use the site after a change accepts it. We will email customers about material changes.
